The Human Genetics Society of Australasia (HGSA) Board of Censors (BoC) for Genetic Counselling is responsible for the professional regulation of genetic counsellors in Australia and New Zealand. It ensures that individual genetic counsellors have relevant professional skills and knowledge to provide safe and effective delivery of services within their profession.

These are regularly reviewed by the BOC and benchmarked against international standards.

Certification Pathway
Membership of the Genetic Counselling BoC
The BoC is comprised of Certified Genetic Counsellors who are at least 2 years post-certification. New Board members will be selected by the current and outgoing Board members on behalf of the HGSA Council. They will include at least the following:
- Chairperson for the Board (Ex-officio Committee Chair)
- The Chairs of each Committee of the Board
- Certification Committee Chair
- Accreditation Committee Chair
- Continuing Professional Development Committee Chair
- Professional Practice Committee Chair
The BOC receives administrative support from the HGSA secretariat.
